Description

West Penwith is one of my favourite locations, there is so much variety & so much to explore in this tranquil part of Cornwall that is steeped in ancient history.

Wicca is a location I have painted many times & this Stile is one i’ve been wanting to paint for along time. This section of footpath contains numerous Stiles, all of which are thankfully Grade II listed, each of them unique & individual. This particular one is a big ‘Coffen’ Stile, a Cornish word for this particular type of Stile which not because of the ease in which Coffins could be carried over but due to the excavation below the treads like a cattle grid.

This Stile is usually at the start of my ventures onto this stretch of Stiles so I have a lot of reference of it, so for this piece I chose a late summer evening when the sun was just setting, it was difficult lighting to achieve but hopefully I’ve managed to convey some of its peaceful beauty.

This Original is framed using an Ash frame & mounted with Arqadia Glacier White Conservation Mountboard & a deep fillet.

The Image size is 241 x 343mm

The Framed size is approx. 400 x 500mm
